Swasthavritta Department

1- General Introduction of the Department :

The Department of Swasthavritta is working as an independent department as per the schedule of Ayurvedacharya (BAMS) syllabus, conducted by Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi. This Department carries out the teaching disciplines in Swasthavritta, Yoga and Naturopathy. The Swasthavritta subject includes the topics related to Personal hygiene (Physical, Mental& Spiritual health) and Social hygiene. These are observation of Dincharya, Ratricharya, Ritucharya, Trayopasthambha and Sadvritta. The other important topics like use of pure air, air pollution, air borne diseases and their management, use of pure water, water borne diseases, methods of disposal of solid waste, exctreta and final disposal of dead body, different infectious diseases, epidemics, management of disaster are also cover the personal and public hygiene sectors.

The knowledge of yogic science is also exploited for the prevention, inhancement and promotion of the quality of  health and management of various diseases with several Yogasans, Pranayam& Sadkriyas. The importance of diseases due to life style disorders are also made aware for their role in application of Primary Health Care, Family Welfare Programme, Maternity & Child care and other several National Health Programmes.


2- Daily Activities of The Department –The  teachers of the department deliver their lecturers to the students of BAMS course for theory and practical classes as per the time table schedule, circulated by the college administration. The teachers of the department are also extend their services in O.P.D., I.P.D. & Emergency section in the hospital and provide the clinical knowledge on the patients during the clinical duties of the BAMS students. Preparation of practical files, articles, compilation and historysheets of the patient and checking of the output, following up of the OPD & IPD patients and guidance accordingly to the BAMS & MD students/ scholar are the daily activities of the department personnels.

1-    Academic Activities –

(A) Tours – The Educational tours are executed as per the schedule in the syllabus to the places like:

(a)  Water Purification plant

(b)  Leprosy sanitorium

(c)  Sewage treatment plant

(d) Industrial Unit

(e)  Pasteurization Unit

(f)   Rural Ayurvedic Dispensary

(g)  Primary Health Care

(h) Maternity & Child Care Hospital

and practical demonstration in confirmation of theoritical knowledge is shown to the BAMS Students.


(B)  Participation as Resource person / Participant in Swasthavritta, Yoga & Nisargopchar ROTP by the Departmental teachers at different places in India.

(C)  Seminar – As per Terminal & Semester division of syllabus, topics on different subjects are allotted to the students and their proper presentation are conducted during weekly seminars of the department and students are knowledged for their quarries. The BAMS IInd Prof. Students theory & practical exams are also conducted as per H.N.B. Garhwal University, Srinagar (U.K.).


Academic & Clinical Activities of the Department for the General Nursing Training Students –

The General Nursing Training Students are taught by the teachers of the department as per the time table and syllabus scheduled for them. They are also given the clinical & hospital affairs knowledge for the outdoor & indoor patients. Their theory and practical exams are also conducted by the teachers as per the board of Indian medicine, Uttarakhand and college authorities direction.
